Jump Cut
A jump cut is an abrupt edit within the same shot or angle, used in short-form ads to maintain fast pacing and hold viewer attention.
A jump cut removes a section of continuous footage, creating a visible "jump" in position or time. In traditional filmmaking it's considered a mistake; in TikTok-era advertising it's a deliberate pacing tool.
Jump cuts keep the visual rhythm snappy — every 2–3 seconds the frame shifts slightly, preventing the eye from settling and the viewer from scrolling. Combined with b-roll cuts, they create the rapid editing style that characterises high-performing short-form ads.
The technique is especially common in UGC-style ads where a creator talks to camera. Removing pauses, filler words and breaths via jump cuts makes the delivery feel energetic and confident.
