Horizontal (16:9)
A 16:9 aspect ratio video format (1920×1080 px) standard for YouTube pre-roll, desktop placements and traditional video ads.
Horizontal 16:9 is the native format for YouTube in-stream ads, desktop web placements, Connected TV (CTV) and linear television. It's the worst performer on mobile feeds because it occupies less than half the screen, giving the viewer room to scroll past.
For brands running YouTube pre-roll or discovery campaigns, 16:9 is essential. For social-first advertisers on TikTok and Reels, it's a secondary format best used only when the media plan includes YouTube or CTV.
Recommended resolution is 1920×1080 (full HD). YouTube accepts up to 4K for premium placements.
